I’m sure that we all have a legacy. A legacy is important because it is how we are to be remembered.
I am honored to be named after my paternal grandfather. He served the last bit of the Korean War and some of the Cold War as a sergeant. He would have loved North Carolina. It’s just too bad he died before moving here. November 24, 1932 - March 4, 2011.
Even though his birth name is Richard Burdette Honican, he will always be known as Pappy. I think that you guys would have loved Pappy. He was a good, godly man. With the help of a good, godly woman, he raised three good, godly men. One of those men became a preacher, even.
And twenty-two years ago, that godly man married a very intelligent woman. Four years later, they gave birth to me. I am so glad to have been named after Pappy.
2020 has been the year of the Honicans. I have started doing these devotions. My sister Lucy will drive. I will enter adulthood.
When you look back on 2020 come New Year’s Eve, don’t remember Covid-19, remember the good times.
Here is one image of Pappy:
